I was so happy to hear that Sam read the Book of Kings over and over again. I, too, came from a "Read The Bible Daily" household so my go-to was the Book of Proverbs. It was EASY to read.
I disagree that the Book of Proverbs isn't a GREAT book to live by... as long as it is taken as 1 part of the Trilogy. Proverbs is 1 of 3 books of wisdom.
90% of your life WILL be the story of cause and effect, and for that Proverbs is a great book. When life STOPS being about cause and effect, it's time to turn to book 3, the book of Job.
Then when you get old and everything seems meaningless, well... now it's time to introduce you to #2, Ecclesiastes, which says "Yes Getting Old Sucks."
